About
MKM Craftsman Series Wood Ribs
MKM Craftman Series
ribs consists of 22 differently shaped ribs made of a medium
hard woods. The ribs have a variety of curves, and relatively
sharp edges that are straight. The edges are finely
sanded by hand and should not contain any dings. MKM feels
that it is important for the curves of the rib to be constant.
Each rib is finished with an oil and wax mixture that is deeply
applied to the rib to make it more durable in water.

Small
to medium bowl interiors. Point is useful for rim
and wall details. Flat edge is great for compressing vertical
walls. Rounded blunt end won't catch at the bottom of the
bowl.

W2a

Interior
rib. Very useful inside small vase and jar forms
for pushing out the wall. More effective that flexible ribs
when used inside a form. Use in conjunction with a flexible
rib or credit card on the exterior of the form. Comes
in two larger sizes (2b and 2c).

General use
medium size bowl rib for bowl interiors. The flatter
bottom part of the rib is useful for setting the curve on small
to medium size plates. Comes in a larger size (W2c) and a smaller
size (W2a). |
W2c

Large
bowl interiors and for setting the curve on medium size plates.
Like the W2a, it can be used inside large jars to push out
the walls.

Useful
for small to medium size bowls, and for compressing vertical

bowl interiors. External vertical wall compression. The sharp
end is useful for rim and wall details.

This
rib provides different corner radius's. Each corner of the
rib has a different radius. It is also small enough to be
attached to the MKM Ultimate Throwing Stick.

Vertical
wall compression. The curved side is great for working the
sides of gently curved exterior walls of vase and jar forms.
Angling it away from the vertical increases the effective
curve of the rib.

Interior
rib, medium size. Use this rib when working the inside of
forms that are to be expanded. Much more effective than a
soft rib, or fingers for moving out clay walls. Comes in a
larger size (W7b).

rib, larger size. Comes in a smaller size (W7a). Can be used
with MKM Throwing ToolsT.

W8a

This
rib works well inside large bowls with steep walls and flatter,
but still curved, bottoms. Use it with the blunt end facing
out when on the bottom of the bowl, and with the blunt end
facing down when on the wall of the bowl. Comes in a larger
size.

This
rib works well inside large bowls with steep walls and flatter,
but still curved, bottoms. Use it with the blunt end facing
out when on the bottom of the bowl, and with the blunt end
facing down when on the wall of the bowl. Comes in two sizes.

This
rib is useful for smoothing the marks left by trim tools.
The narrow end smooths inside the foot ring, and the flat
sides and curved larger end is useful on the curved exteriors
of bowls, etc.

Multiple
use rib. Bowl interiors, vertical wall compression, with a
sharp corner for base and rim details. The curved bottom of
the rib is great for compressing and forming plate interiors.

compressing and working with slabs.

Specifically
designed for working with flanged plates and bowls.
Use the flat edge to push down the flange, and the sharper
curved end to interior wall of the bowl. Also great
for smoothing flat slabs of clay.

setting the curve on plates. Also for linear marks on the
exterior of vase forms.
